Wine, Wind, and Walking Along the PCT

June 14, 2014 by Alan Underkofler

Mile 558 – 15 Pacific Crest Trail Miles, 1 wandering mile20140614-090853-32933370.jpgEnjoyed two nights in Tehachapi and much needed relaxation with friends from the trail. Dinner, drinks, jacuzzi, and a big fluffy bed were all glorious! We also had two additional angels who gave us a ride to and from the grocery store. More unexpected kindness from strangers.

20140614-090854-32934124.jpgWe escaped the vortex at about 12pm getting a ride back to the PCT from local trail angel Rufus. We hiked the first 8 miles to the 2nd trail exit for Tehachapi.

20140614-090854-32934861.jpgAt mile 568 I watched a snake capture it’s meal. The snake had itself around a mouse quickly, it was sad yet interesting to witness the flow of nature along the PCT.

20140614-090853-32933756.jpgThere is a reason Tehachapi is surrounded by wind farms! We were blown around like lottery ball numbers being pulled as we climbed up the mountain. At about 7pm we found a small clearing among trees that offered us shelter and enough room for our tent.

I packed out pizza and wine for dinner which we thoroughly enjoyed before climbing into our tent for the evening. It’s always comforting to be back on the trail…
