Mile 676 – 25 Pacific Crest Trail miles, 1 wandering mileThis morning I am in awe of the beauty which surrounds me. Nature is singing to me as I walk down the trail. Im still hoping today will be the day that I see a bear!
We took a long break at a stream for water and traded with GlitterBug and BoomBox, a Starbucks Refresher for fresh brewed coffee! Trading is a big thing on the trail especially as you get closer to your next resupply.
Just 2,000 feet left to climb and 19 miles to Kennedy Meadows. It seems unreal that we are here almost at the High Sierras! We have been waiting for the sierras for almost 700 miles.
We came to our next water source tired and thirsty only to fine the stream completely dry. Our friends were out of water so we gave them half of our remaining liter of water and reluctantly packed up and continued to the next water about five miles away. I was in a state of shock to see an actual flowing river… There was more water here than we had seen in weeks and it was a bit overwhelming.
I immediately took off my shoes and let my feet soak in the cold water. My right foot was not happy at all and I hoped cold water would help ease the pain I was feeling. After enjoying quality time in Kern River we moved on.
About a mile later we stopped and watched a few beavers playing in the river. I was hoping for bears but the beavers were a unique wildlife experience for the Pacific Crest Trail.
And then we came upon the PCT mile 700 trail art… 700 miles backpacking on the PCT! I can’t wait for the next 700 miles!
We stopped a mile shy of Kennedy Meadows as we were tired and elected to arrive in the morning for breakfast. We were excited about tomorrow and our planned day off before hitting the Sierras.
