Bears! Sadly Not Wild…

May 11, 2014 by Alan Underkofler

Mile 235 – 18 trail miles20140511-184608.jpg

We started our day hiking four miles to water, the next 17 miles are dry… Most days we are alone on the trail until we find epic shade or water. Here we had both! We were both dragging, dragging, dragging this morning. Not until after first lunch did I seem to get any decent momentum.

We stopped at the end of a climb next to a forest road. Ironically there was a motorcycle parked in the side and a jeep drive by… It was strange to hear a motorized vehicle… What a great feeling to be surprised by such a common sight! 🙂

We were exhausted and dragging along the trail looking for a site. To inspire us I sang “Almost Paradise” at the top of my lungs for the last half mile or so. Great for us but I feel bad for anyone who hears our special singing voices on the trail.

Finally a great campsite near the trail and a big tree presented itself to us just in time for the sunset.
