Crunching To Devils Postpile National Monument

August 18, 2014 by Alan Underkofler

I woke up and ventured out to Devils Postpile National Monument.

IMG_3217.JPGIt was only a mile… How bad can a mile one trail using crutches be? It was a beautiful, slow, and somewhat painful experience. But in the end completely worth it!

IMG_3225.JPGIt was definitely time for lunch at Reds Meadows Lodge and to see which hikers had arrived. I met up with some PCT friends none of which had seen Butterfly…

I then headed back down to switch my campsite. Let the comedy hour begin! It’s amazing what one can do with crutches…

I made it back to the resort in time to meet our friends Can Can and Bandit coming off the trail. Two cold beers, soda, apples, and more were waiting for them.

IMG_3226.JPGI was estimating Butterfly’s arrival to be another day maybe two. This was changed when I received the spot checkin at VVR. I was so disappointed yet happy that she went to see what VVR was all about. It looks like it may be another four days before I reunite with my love.
