Mile 593 – 20 Pacific Crest Trail miles, 2.3 wandering milesI woke up to the music of the wilderness, birds were singing all around me… I could have stayed in the tent for hours listening to them welcome the morning. It was so relaxing.
Miles and miles of pristine cool forest awaited. My steps were light feeling rejuvenated by the singing birds and the green forest. And with the forest came water in the form of springs every five to ten miles. A true unexpected treat on our way to the Mohave Desert and a 32 mile dry stretch.
We had an early dinner near another spring and did laundry in complete hiker style using ziplocks. Butterfly made use of an old cabin with half of the wall left to take a hiker shower. I just stood behind a tree taking the chance of someone coming up behind me.
Hiking into the evening we entered another burn area. The ground covered in purple and yellow flowers. Old burned trees were now white as their bark had long ago laid rest on the ground. We had arrived at the perfect time to enjoy the beauty of the forest regrowing without the sun slowly sucking the energy out of us.
Determined to finish our 20 miles for the day we continued hiking until 9:15. I love hiking as the sun sets and into the early evening. We spent another 30 minutes looking for a flat spot along the trail.
