Mile 380 – 20 Pacific Crest Trail Miles, 3.5 wandering miles
Sometimes I find myself thinking… Were the original Pacific Crest Trail planners drunk, pranksters, or just in love with pointless assents and descents? Picture going up 1,000 feet just to go down 1,000 feet then crossing the same highway you did just a half a mile before and you may understand what I am saying here… All part of the journey to Canada! And we are now a half mile closer!
Due to an almost extinct frog we are detoured and walk on a lonely highway for four miles. Five cars passed us and a few of them waved as they zipped by.
Following a described route we venture towards a campground exit off the highway. We pass by a sign that says “congratulations you’ve made it to mile 392 come to campsite 17 and claim your prize”!
Many thoughts go through my head on the next mile… “It’s Tuesday I’m sure that’s a sign left over from the weekend…” or “maybe there will be something left in a cooler like a somewhat cold soda!”…
As we turn the corner I see people with hands waving! And as we approach I am asked… “Would your like some salad and a margarita?” YES AND YES!!! These moments are unexpected and amazing! Thank you sooo much Cartwheel!!!
Somehow we went another five miles or so and made it to mile 400! 400 miles backpacking!!!! Are we crazy? To tired to really ponder this we set up camp about a half if a mile later.
I am lucky!
